Remote Simultaneous Interpretation (RSI) brings teams together

Like many during the COVID-19 crisis, Ubiqus’ clients are looking for ways to maintain business as usual in an unprecedented time. Last month, Allurion Technologies, experts in weight loss technology, needed to bring their sales teams in four countries together to attend an event virtually. They approached Ubiqus with this urgent requirement – how could they still provide the crucial language support that was needed for 50% of the delegation?

Bespoke Solutions for Remote Interpretation

The meeting was scheduled to take place in Barcelona and Allurion had arranged to have both interpreters and professional interpretation equipment on-site. The sessions were going to be held in English and there were attendees from France, Spain and Italy who needed language support. This is where Ubiqus stepped in.

First, we needed to establish whether Allurion already had a remote conferencing platform or whether we could use our own Congress Rental Network (CRN) RSI platform to facilitate the meeting. In this instance, they had opted for Microsoft Teams, so we utilised the CRN RSI plugin that enables interpretation to work in conjunction with an external platform. We ran through the options with Allurion who choose to allow delegates to use their smartphones to access the interpretation.

Seamless Integration using Smart Technology

The premise was simple – delegates and trainers would all access the Microsoft Teams session as usual, but individuals needing language support would use the CRN RSI app on their smartphones to hear the proceedings in their native language. Everyone would have the same user experience, and use the same material, but with audio in their native tongue.

The meeting ran for three days with a number of different sessions. Ubiqus provided the technical facilities, the remote simultaneous interpreters and monitoring and support throughout. The event was a success and Allurion were extremely happy with the result.
